Cedar Privacy Fence — Dark Stained, Belton, MO
Cedar staining in Belton
We power-washed the existing fence to remove surface mildew and weathered gray, allowed 48 hours of drying time, then applied two coats of a deep-brown semi-transparent penetrating stain using a spray-and-back-brush technique. Every board face, edge, and both post sides received full coverage.
This Belton fence had been installed three years prior and never stained — the cedar had started to gray, and the homeowner wanted a deep dark-brown tone before winter hit. Dark semi-transparent stain on cedar reads warmer in low-angle fall light and conceals the uneven weathering that comes with a few seasons of KC sun.
Staining before Belton winters
Cass County sits outside Johnson County's HOA density, but it faces the same freeze-thaw exposure. Cedar that goes into winter without a protective stain coat is at its most vulnerable to checking and moisture penetration. Our wood fence staining process closes the grain before the first hard freeze. We documented the product spec for this fence so the next re-coat in 2-3 years matches perfectly.
Fully restored fence
The dark tone made the fence look brand new from both sides. The homeowner remarked it matched the deck stain they had done by someone else years ago — close enough to be intentional. When any boards need repair before the next cycle, a quick touchup with the same product will blend cleanly. Any fence repair work we do later will use the same stain spec.
