Cedar Privacy Fence — Olathe, KS
New cedar fence in Olathe
We installed approximately 200 linear feet of 6-foot cedar board-on-board privacy fence along the full rear and side yard perimeter. Green-pressure-treated 4x4 posts set at 8-foot centers, two horizontal rails per section, galvanized ring-shank nails throughout. The board-on-board pattern gives full privacy from all angles without the fence face looking flat.
Spring is the busiest window for new fence installs in Olathe — this family wanted it in before the kids were out of school for summer. The Olathe lot had an existing 4-foot chain link from the previous owner. We removed and hauled it as part of the project, then re-graded the fence line before setting new posts.
Building for Olathe's conditions
Olathe's southern expansion neighborhoods — especially south of 151st — sit on some of the densest Wymore-Grundy clay in the county. Clay holds moisture against post bases for weeks after rain. We oversize the post holes to 12-inch diameter and pour full bell-bottom footings at 36-inch depth. That's what makes our 6-foot cedar privacy fence installation stay plumb in Olathe through multiple frost cycles.
Ready for summer
The fence went in two days before the family's backyard playstructure was delivered — good timing. The natural cedar will lighten slightly to silver-gray if left unstained; we recommended a first stain coat at 30 days and left the full stain and seal schedule on the handoff invoice.
