Fence Stain Transformation — Raymore, MO
Fence stain transformation in Raymore
We pressure-washed the full cedar fence to strip surface mildew and weathered gray. One panel was spot-tested first to confirm the cedar would accept penetrating stain at this saturation level — it did, cleanly. Two coats were applied via spray-and-back-brush throughout. Total treated area was approximately 180 linear feet of 6-foot privacy fence.
The before-and-after speaks for itself: left side is what five years of KC weather does to unstained cedar, right side is what it looks like after two coats of semi-transparent penetrating stain. Raymore sees some of the metro's highest humidity from its proximity to the Peculiar Ridge watershed — cedar exposed to that moisture cycle without stain degrades faster than the same fence in dryer Johnson County.
Five years is the limit
Cedar that reaches five seasons without staining is still salvageable — barely. The surface gray is weathering, not rot, and penetrating stain can reverse the appearance completely as this photo shows. Six-plus seasons is where checking and rot begin at post bases and bottom boards. Our fence stain and seal process includes a structural assessment at every service visit so we catch post-base decay before it spreads.
Five years reversed in one day
The amber cedar color the homeowner originally loved came back fully. Post bases were documented — all solid, no rot — so the fence has many years of life ahead. The stain schedule is now reset to two years from this date. When any fence repair comes up in this window, the repair boards will match the freshly stained surface.
